Field Notes:

I sometimes wonder what kind of parent I’ll be. I think it’s important to provide some level of direction to a child but then there is a delicate balance between providing direction and being over-controlling. A recent move, Boyhood, comes to mind. Boyhood was a 2014 coming-of-age film, written and directed by Richard Linklater. It depicts the childhood to adolescence story of Mason Evans, Jr.; covering his life from age six to eighteen. I love how the movie production began in 2002 and ended 12 years later in 2014. The film is about growing up and how parents can provide direction but the child still needs to grow on its own.
